About Bee

Bee Quammie is a freelance writer, digital content creator, event producer, and public speaker. With a degree in Health Sciences from the University of Western Ontario, Bee spent over a decade in the healthcare industry (working in mental health research, international health, and acquired brain injury work) before transitioning to writing and media.

Bee started her personal blog ‘83 To Infinity in 2011, focusing on areas around natural hair care, health & wellness, art & culture and more. After the birth of her daughter in 2014, Bee founded The Brown Suga Mama, a blog focused on motherhood from the perspective of a Black Canadian mom. Bee has been recognized by Black Enterprise as one of the “most impactful and successful voices in the online space,” is a 2013 Canadian Weblog Award nominee, and was the recipient of the Best Blogger Award at the 2014 Black Canadians Awards.

Blogging offered Bee the opportunity to grow as a freelance writer, gaining bylines in publications like Chatelaine, EBONY Magazine, Canadian Living, VICE, and many more. Bee writes frequently on topics surrounding parenting, race and culture, feminism, health and wellness, and pop culture, and has cultivated a strong voice and dedicated audience.

Bee has also taken her thoughts, words, and knowledge from behind the computer screen. She has been featured on Arise TV's Our Take in New York City discussing international healthcare, and multiple times on TVO's The Agenda With Steve Paikin, speaking on education & employment for Canadian millenials and the presence of women in Canadian media. Most recently, she has been a featured commentator on CBC - both for CBC Radio and for CBC’s flagship news show, The National. She has spoken at conferences and panels across North America, mentors at programs for young girls and women of colour, and is a featured speaker listed with the National Speakers Bureau. Bee also produces and hosts events in the Greater Toronto Area surrounding feminism in film, the celebration of natural hair, and diversity in media.

Bee is an accomplished and multi-passionate creative and professional with a knack for storytelling, communication, and outreach, who will continue making an impact on the world around her for years to come. She currently resides in the Greater Toronto Area.
